The Biography of His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge

His Royal Highness Prince William visited Canada in 1991 and again in 1998.  The 2011 Royal Tour will be Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and The Duchess of Cambridge first tour outside the United Kingdom as a Royal Couple.

Early life and education

Prince William was born on June 21, 1982, and was christened Prince William Arthur Philip Louis on August 4, 1982, at Buckingham Palace, in London, England.  He is the first child of the Prince of Wales and the late Diana, Princess of Wales.  He is second in line of succession to The Throne.

After attending a pre-preparatory school in London, Prince William attended Ludgrove School in Berkshire for five years.  In 1995, he went on to Eton College, where he studied geography, biology and art history.

Prince William was 15 years old when his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, died tragically in 1997.  After a gap year during which he visited Chile and Belize, worked on British dairy farms and visited countries in Africa, Prince William chose to study geography at the University of St Andrews in Fife, Scotland, where he earned his degree in 2005. Prince William met Catherine while studying at St Andrews.

Military service

After a period of work experience, Prince William joined the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst as an officer cadet.  Shortly thereafter, he was commissioned as an army officer and joined the Household Cavalry as a second lieutenant.  Today, His Royal Highness is a fully qualified and operational search and rescue pilot with the United Kingdom Royal Air Force.

Marriage

On November 16, 2010, the Prince of Wales announced the engagement of his eldest son, Prince William, to Miss Catherine Middleton.  The couple celebrated their wedding at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011. 

Charitable work

The Duke of Cambridge is president or patron to a number of charities and organizations whose work he supports.
