Vancouver, British Columbia
January 19, 2008
CHECK AGAINST DELIVERY
Consul General Duk Mo Suh,
Mr. Bloy, (British Columbia MLA Harry Bloy)
Representatives of the Korean‑Canadian community in British Columbia,
Distinguished guests,
Ladies and gentlemen,
It' s a pleasure to be here today.
I am pleased to be here this morning and honoured to meet with the new Consul General of the Republic of Korea.
Pleased, as well, to have this opportunity to meet with various representatives of the Korean‑Canadian community in British Columbia.
The Government of Canada recognizes the many ways in which Korean culture and tradition have enriched this province and our country.
Canada' s diversity is our greatest strength. Korean Canadians and newcomers enrich the social and cultural diversity of our cities and communities with new ideas and perspectives.
Women and men of Korean origin also help maintain the economic and cultural relationship between Canada and Korea.
It is in the spirit of Canadian openness to all peoples and cultures that I welcome Duk Mo Suh to Canada as the new Consul General of the Republic of Korea.
