The Federal Government and Museums
Canada's museums open a door to our rich heritage and are a reflection of our cultural diversity. Over 2,500 museums tell our stories, offering a multitude of experiences and learning opportunities.
The Government of Canada, through the Department of Canadian Heritage, supports Canadian museums in their efforts to be vibrant and engaging. The Heritage Policies and Programs Branch seeks to ensure that Canada's heritage is preserved and accessible to Canadians today and in the future.
Canada has five national museums, three of which have affiliate museums:
- Canada Science and Technology Museum and its affiliate museums
- Canadian Museum for Human Rights
- Canadian Museum of Civilization and its affiliate museum
- Canadian Museum of Nature
- National Gallery of Canada and its affiliate museum
